10 Morning Routine Hacks To Help Calm Our Anxiety
Y’all, I am in that pool of people who have struggled with morning routines.
And even now when I work at home sometimes, even though my morning routine is better than it used to be… I still get distracted sometimes.
I am the type of person who needs a daily to-do list with very specific details (Meditate, Eat Breakfast, Brush Teeth…) - you get the point. Because if I don’t write ti down I will get distracted and suddenly it’s 2pm and I haven’t eaten…
And when this happens it causes my day to be off balance because I didn’t start off with the most grounding and important practices that help me ground my day.
So what can we do to start our mornings off in a more organized and less anxious way?
1. Wake up early. This will mean something different for everyone. But early enough so that we don’t feel rushed before we have to start our days.
2. Make our bed. This may seem ridiculous but starting our day off by completing a simple task helps set the tone of accomplishment for the day.
3. Meditate/Pray/Have a few minutes of mindfulness. Meditation & such practices help us settle our minds and focus on the present moment.
4. Be active for a few minutes. It doesn’t have to be a hyper intense workout but just a few minutes activates our bodies & allows us to relieve a bit of stress.
5. Take a shower. Some people say take a cold shower but ehhh. Do whatever you need to do to feel awake & refreshed.
6. Take a minute for a morning beverage. It doesn’t have to be caffeinated. It can be water with lemon. But the ritual hydrates us & helps ground our routine.
7. Take a few minutes to journal or write out a to-do list. Whatever we need to do to help clear your mind & start fresh for the day.
8. Practice gratitude. While we’ve got our pen out we can take a minute to write down three things that we’re grateful for. That way when the tough times come up through the day we have a reminder of why we are so grateful to help balance out the day.
9. Eat the frogs. First thing in the morning complete our 3-5 most important ‘to-do’s’ of the day.
10. Allow ourself to work deeply without interruption for a set period of time. Perhaps try the Pomodoro Technique.
